“Merry Christmas mom,” said Merle as she handed her gift to her mom.
“I wonder what it is,” chimed her grandchildren.
Anna shook the gift a little. “It doesn’t rattle. It feels squishy,” she said, playing out the anticipation for her grandchildren. She unfolded the wrapping paper with great care. Once it was unwrapped she proceeded to fold the wrapping paper carefully.
“Grandma! The suspense is killing us.”
“I was brought up to save the paper. There were times we were grateful to have wrapping paper. There was just enough money for presents.” She set the wrapping paper aside and opened the box. “What a lovely nightgown,” she said, holding it up for all to see.
“What’s with the flap on the front?” her granddaughter asked.
Merle started laughing as Anna turned the nightgown around. She burst out laughing. “It appears I may not need it for its intended purpose.”
“Why not?” inquired her granddaughter.
Anna chuckled some more. “It is a nursing nightgown for when you have a baby.”
Her husband Karl smiled a wry smile. “I can think of another use for it.”
“Oh you,” laughed Anna as she swatted him with the box.
