The Beacon: A Hundred Word Story

The light worker brought hope in a cold, dark winter. “Are we there yet,?” was the quiet refrain, as she followed the path where others had tread with some success.
“Just a little further,”  had been urged.
“Just a little more time,” had been reinforced.
“Just another obstacle,” had been quoted.
When the end was finally in sight, the goalposts had been moved farther away. Disappointment reflected in the face of others. Negative words ensued. Upon hearing this, her light shone brighter. It became a stronger beacon. It would deliver on the promise that all people were created as equals.
