Invisible
She stood in the circle anticipating
A nod, a gesture, a smile
In uncomfortable silence, she stood...
waiting.
Waiting to be recognized, to be included
but the conversation went around and over her,
Apparently, she had nothing to offer....
invisible.
Invisible to the person talking
as if she wasn't good enough or
had done something terribly wrong...
excluded.
Excluded from the family circle again,
She didn't meet their standards.
They were prominent people yet...
dysfunctional.
Dysfunctional a better word than prominent
Standing on the pedestal they had built themselves.
Only the chosen acknowledged.
Acknowledgement.
Acknowledgement did not come,
She was only invisible.
She turned and walked away.
Forever.
Amazing Nancy. An interesting method of tying the stanzas together. Very impressed!!
ReplyDeleteTerrific. Best yet. Universal in many ways.
ReplyDeleteI wonder.... if she found the satisfaction she needed in her life?
