He walked very slowly as he shuffled to death,
He counted his steps as he struggled for breath,
The once mighty mind now alone in his head,
He shivered with cold and unreasonable dread.
No one could hear him, he’d nothing to say,
Though all had listened to his words in his day,
His thoughts that touched hearts of people all round,
Now muffled by mist that rose from the ground.
Someone approached from out of the past,
He knew her from somewhere, but the thought wouldn't last,
She took his arm, smiling, and called him by name,
He tried to think back but still nothing came.
Who was this person who called herself wife?
This person he felt that he’d known all his life.
For one brief moment he was out of his dream,
Then he folded back slowly and sank down in the stream.
