Will sat quietly in aural meditation. The gentle buzzing of his skin helped to clear his thoughts. Wispy clouds floated by on the slippery jetstream of life. His mind whirled with every sight, every sound. Songbirds delighted in fluttering for the collection of food. The whirring of grasshopper wings carrying them on to greater experiences entered his senses. The darting movements of the hummingbirds as they chased one and another away from the feeders filled him with awe. All were  small moments in their daily lives where rituals were established innately for their short life spans. All with purpose. All with a singular focus, daily survival. Yet a calmness pervaded all that surrounded him. These things were the fabric of life. Enjoyment, survival. Life was so simple when you looked at it this way.

As he sought and even felt further the aural atmosphere that surrounded him Will felt a disturbance in the force. He chuckled inwardly at this usage of the term. He became more aware of the bundle of energy that quickly approached.

“Will! Will!” squealed the excited voice. “Come look at what we found.” An small hand reached out and pulled on Will’s hand.

Will smiled with delight at this new development. “Is it amazing?” he asked, basking in the energy the child was giving off.

“Oh yes,” intoned Rachel as she tugged harder on his hand. Will rose and let himself be pulled across the open field.

“Is it magnificent?” he asked as they broke into a slow run.

“Oh it is! It is!,” exclaimed Rachel, her energy bursting in anticipation.

“Is it spectacular?”

Rachel giggled as she pushed through the narrow gate. “What’s with the synonyms?” she inquired as she let go off his hand so he could open the gate wider to get through.

“We live in a world of wonder,” he explained. “Your excitement has me wondering what is so exciting to you right now.”

“You will see,” she said as she skipped along excitedly.

Will spotted Rachel’s mother and young brother standing in the longer grass.

“Here it is,” said a delighted Rachel.

“Shh,” said Richard, her brother. We don’t want to disturb them.”

Will looked quickly from Richard to Sarah, Rachel’s mother who just smiled and then to the tufts of grass where Rachel was now bending down.

Will bent down to join Rachel and see what had caught her attention. Tucked snuggly in a grass bed were 7 kits. They shivered as one. Their eyes were closed. One stretched out and then returned to cuddling its brothers and sisters.

“Aren’t they the cutest things ever,” whispered Rachel as she looked at the small bodies with love in her eyes.

“Indeed they are,” replied Will as he looked around the meadow.

Sarah spoke quietly. “We need to move away from what we are seeing. We don’t want to scare the mother off. She needs to feed and protect her little bunnies.”

Rachel stood up right away and took Will’s hand. “Will they be ok?” she inquired.

Will looked at Sarah who nodded. “In life some will become adult rabbits and some will not live long.”

“We have to protect them,” she exclaimed, squeezing Will’s hand harder as she turned to look back at the nest.

“Oh honey. That’s the parents' job,” replied Sarah.

“Just like it is your job to protect us, isn’t it?” asked Richard.

“And keep us safe. And keep us happy,” added Rachel.

“It is,” Sarah answered.

“What about Will?” asked a wide eyed Rachel as she looked at her mother. “Whose job is it to keep Will safe?”

Will realized that in such a short time his effect on this family had grown considerably. These attachments had pulled his life in new directions, expanding his mind in ways he had never known before. Much like the hummingbirds and the wispy clouds moving across the sky, this family had become part of the inner peace he was developing in his life.

“We all do,” said Sarah as she took Will’s hand. “We all do.”

“That is spectacular,” said Rachel.

Sarah looked at Will. “Synonyms?” she inquired. Will nodded. Sarah saw his strong influence in her kids' lives as a good sign. She smiled inwardly as she squeezed his hand.

Later that night Will was sitting quietly contemplating the stars when he felt a warm presence sit down beside him.

“Solitude, Stillness, Awareness.” Sarah’s quiet voice whispered.

“And together we are one,” answered Will.

“And together we are one,” answered Sarah. Sometimes good things happen because they are meant to be. She smiled as this peaceful man shared his aura with her.
